At Mediqle we are always ready to help you with your hair transplant! We provide a global service, so the fastest and best way to help you, is by collecting information without you leaving your home! An important piece of information is pictures of your hair. By means of the photos provided, the specialist will get a realistic picture and based on this, can advise you which treatment and the number of grafts are most suitable for you, and whether you are a suitable candidate for the treatment. An indication can also be given about the expected results of a hair transplant.
Tips for taking the pictures
Dont use flash
Don't use flash when taking the pictures. Flash can distort the image drastically and give a false representation of your hair.
Position of lighting
As for positioning goes, don't stand in between the camera and the source of light. Make sure the light source is coming from behind the camera.
Type of light
Make sure to have a diffuse source of light, which basically means don't have light concentrated at a single spot of the picture, a very bad example would be shining a light torch on yourself. Natural lighting is the best for taking accurate and representative pictures. If you have a spot in your house with good natural lighting would be perfect!
Consistency of lighting
Light can impact the way your hair looks and may give a diffrent impression under different lighting . This doesn't help when the specialist is evaluating your hair for consultation or recovery after the procedure. Therefore, having consistent lighting is key, consistency has nothing to do with the type of light, consistency means that for each picture the source of light and the environment should be the same. Some tips in having consistency:
Always use the same light source
Take your pictures at the same distance from the light source
Take your pictures in same room
Use a blank background which ensures good contrast, an example would be a white wall.
Keep the camera at around 18 inches from your head tilted at a 45 degree angle when taking the pictures (you may zoom in but make sure your whole head is visible). You can take the pictures with a selfie stick, but, having someone else take the pictures would be better.
There are a number of perspectives that are very informative to the specialist. Therefore it is important that the pictures are taken as mentioned below. Before taking the pictures, make sure your hair is free from any gel, wax, extensions or braids.
Picture of hairline - front view
Take a picture from the front and keep your hair back so that your hairline is clearly visible. This way it can be determined what the degree of hair loss is, what the hair density is and how many grafts are likely to be needed.
Picture from the top - crown
Take a picture of your hair from a top view. This allows for a better look at the degree of hair loss on the top of your head and crown. You may want to add an additional picture holding up a strip of hair showing your scalp in the crown area.
Picture of the sides (donor area)
Take a picture of both sides as shown in the pictures above. The sides can optionally serve as donor area and are therefore included in the evaluation of donor capability. Ideally the pictures are taken with short hair such that the individual hairs are visible. If you have long hair, comb a portion in the opposite direction, showing a strip of the base of your skin. Taking multiple pictures may help (including additional close-up pictures)
Picture of the back (donor area)
Take a picture of the back of your head which will serve as the donor area. From this the specialist can see what the hair density, quality and suitability of the donor area is. Ideally this is done with short hair such that the individual hairs are visible. If you have long hair, comb a portion in the opposite direction, showing a strip of the base of your skin. Taking multiple pictures may help (including additional close-up pictures).
