This research emphasizes the importance of  Second Opinions on healthcare and finance. One finding is that most Americans get a late or misdiagnosed at least once in their lives. It is surprising, however, what consequences this has. The research shows that 30% of misdiagnoses lead to life-threatening situations and that misdiagnoses are responsible for 10% of deaths in patients. This ultimately causes 40 to 80,000 deaths per year in the US alone. The research also shows that there are drastic financial consequences, the impact has been estimated at 750 billion dollars in the US. This corresponds to 30% of the government budget for health care.

A study published in the Internatıonal Journal Of Health Management And Tourism (IJHMT) highlights why Turkey is an increasingly popular destination for medical tourism. Some interesting findings are that Turkey ranks as the number 2 in the world with regard to the number of accredited hospitals and that Turkey belongs to the top 10 medical tourist destinations in the world, which can be attributed to the high expertise and technology, accessibility, competitiveness, facilities and low prices. The research also highlights the importance of costs in Turkeys popularity in the medical tourism sector. Prices are often more than 50-75% lower compared to the United States and European countries, making Turkey one of the cheapest in the world.

This research shows how a full body scan (MRI) can be a useful tool in detecting various types of lesions and can aid physicians in obtaining useful information. The types of lesions in this study included cysts, edemas, and malignant and non-malignant tumours. A few key findings were that there was a significant difference in the number of lesions per person between elderly patients (≥52) and younger patients. There was no significant difference in the number of lesions between men and women, there was however a substantial difference in the type of lesions between men and women.

A study conducted by Mayo Clinic found that no less than 88% of Second Opinions had a different or modified diagnosis.
